BADS evolved from the Leisure Club which was formed in 1976 by a group of enthusiasts who wished to make full use of the Village Hall facilities. Sadly, of several activities provided at that time, BADS is the sole survivor.
The society performed annually for many years with ‘rave revues’, however, for a variety of reasons, lost impetus between 2007 and 2010 and needed a kick start if it was to continue.
Over 30 people responded to a plea for support in February 2011, with the positive result that BADS is definitely back on track. We have a healthy bank balance, costumes, scenery, a modular stage, and an enviable lighting and sound system as well as an excellent base in the Rhodes Memorial Hall.
It’s not too late if you’d like to be involved. We welcome volunteers of all ages with a range of skills, able either to take part or help behind the scenes. Even if you don’t want to ‘tread the boards’ there are plenty of other things to do, from set-building to sorting out costumes, make-up, producing, directing, or generally helping out backstage or front of house. No previous experience is required – just a willingness to take part, either on stage or off, whilst having a lot of fun. There is currently no membership fee – we pay just £1 each per meeting or rehearsal to cover the costs of hire of the Hall.
